SCOPE OF WORK
IDC consults on socio-economic sustainability in the emerging markets. Our focus however has always been Sub Saharan Africa, specialising in Resettlement Action Plans (RAP) undertaken in accordance to IFC Performance Standards. The RAP is the final outcome of a series of research activities including: legislative reviews, stakeholder mapping, culturally appropriate fulfilment of protocols, scopes, baselines, impact assessments, census and valuations, wide ranging participatory management plans that are gender sensitive and that embrace the most vulnerable members of society. The outcomes are aimed to achieve sustainable livelihoods, improved living standards and access to natural resources, public services, utilities and new markets. Most projects include elements of action research, capacity building, conflict prevention and skills training to optimise the results.
IDC achieves Free Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC), by consulting with Project Affected Peoples on their preferences, understanding their own knowledge, attitudes and practice (KAP) and working with them to structure a road map for equitable development. This often includes preliminary work using a range of capacity building tools including drama for development, focus group discussions, one-on-one interviews, transect walks, mapping and cultural archiving films.
IDC combines international best practice with local knowledge with all projects undertaken with a high local content. Not only do we take on local consultants, but have over the last 20 years have had as its core practice, the recruitment and training of young local graduates to join the IDC team. They learn the process, the ethics and the integrity required to work to the highest standards and in return, they bring their own cultural understanding, language skills and energy to benefit the Project overall.
IDC has more than the requisite qualifications and experience. IDC brings the passion to diligently work with all stakeholders and negotiate each small step towards achieving equitable development and buy-in by all for a sustainable future.
